David Strother's Historic Barber Shop

A reconstruction of David Strother’s barber shop as it would have looked in 1870, on the day that Strother made history as the first Black man to vote in Illinois. Features a full VR experience.

An examination of present-day issues surrounding voting and enfranchisement, and what you can do to preserve this civic necessity.

Children's Spaces

In addition to the three exhibits, there are spaces for young visitors, including a play barber shop and polling booth.
